Clinical Services

Renaissance Recovery program is a 24 bed residential program that is designed to provide behavioral health treatment to chemically impaired adolescents, ages 12-17. Renaissance Recovery utilizes an eclectic therapeutic approach (E.G., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Twelve Step Facilitation) that focuses on individual client strengths to assist them with remaining substance free and to enhance their self-esteem and self-worth.

Renaissance Recovery will incorporate a co-occurring based assessment model to identify and treat both mental health and substance abuse disorders. Renaissance Recovery is a multi-disciplinary treatment program that combines substance abuse therapy, educational services, medication therapy and social interventions to address the needs of the adolescent residents and their family members.

Renaissance Recovery’s aims are to:
* Provide residents with a holistic therapeutic-social environment that will facilitate their learning of evidence based pro-social behaviors
* Provide support and education to family members and guardians
* Offer comprehensive referral sources

We believe that when these aims are implemented and practiced together on a consistent basis, both the residents and the family members/guardians will achieve favorable outcomes.

While Renaissance Recovery’s philosophy of treatment supports life-long commitment towards total abstinence from mood-altering chemicals, we realize that not all residents and their family members/guardians share this philosophy. Nevertheless, Renaissance Recovery’s ultimate goal is to assist our residents with achieving complete abstinence from mood-altering substances.

Finally, while treatment cannot guarantee a “cure” for substance dependency or a resolution to a person’s prior problem, treatment is the first step towards a life of recovery.

Our residents will receive substance abuse counseling services that include the following:
* Techniques to recognize and manage internal emotional signals (cues) that could contribute to substance or psychiatric relapses.
* Techniques to identify and manage consequences of substance abuse.
* Skills and support to maintain sobriety and recovery.
* Techniques to avoid high-risk situations such as peer, environment, paraphernalia, and electronic devices (e.g., cell phones, iPods, iPads, internet, etc.)
* Affirmation of positive / favorable behaviors.
* Coping skills and social skills training to deal with symptoms or negative mood states related to substance abuse (e.g., relaxation training cognitive-behavioral therapy for depression or anxiety, coping strategies for hallucinations, and the utilization of self-support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous)
* Medication therapy that aids with medial detoxification and recovery.

Individual Therapy – Scheduled sessions with the residents’ primary substance abuse therapist to address key therapeutic issues based upon the client’s individual treatment needs and behavioral choices as it related to the client stages of change development. These sessions will also include the formulation of aftercare plans.

Family Therapy – Family programs at Renaissance Recovery encourage partnership and communication among clients, parent/guardian and service providers. Scheduled family sessions occur with the substance abuse therapists. The goal of family therapy is for residents and their family members to continue developing their Relapse Prevention Plan. The family will provide honest feedback so that the relapse prevention plan can be realistic and attainable for the residents to implement once they return to the community. The therapist will assess the resident’s progress with the designated family member(s); encourage active participation from the designated family members to participate in the development of the relapse prevention plan to implement upon the return to the community to maintain sobriety.
* Identify family social interactions that possibly reinforce the resident’s abusive behavioral patterns
* Identify the current role of the client within the family system
* Educate the family about the effects of substance abuse on the family
* Strengthen family relationships
* Provide family members with support and resources to foster their recovery with regard to their co-dependency, substance abuse or dependency and parenting skills.

Group Therapy – Research indicates that individuals with co-occurring disorders achieve better outcomes when the engage in group treatment that addresses both substance abuse and mental health disorders. Research also indicates that social support plays an important role for minimizing relapse occurrences among individuals with co-occurring substance abuse and mental heath disorders. Group therapy is an ideal setting for residents to develop peer supports. In groups, adolescents share their experiences and learn effective coping strategies from each other. Scheduled group therapy sessions are offered seven days per week for an hour and a half to address substance abuse therapy, substance abuse education, mental health therapy, and social skills development.

During group sessions:
* Residents will actively participate and be encourages to share their thoughts, feelings and behavioral choices.
* Residents will discuss pro-social attitudes, beliefs and behavioral changes that have occurred through their engagement in treatment at Renaissance Recovery.
